The Executive Committee invites submissions of abstracts for the 115th Annual Meeting of the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland to be presented as part of a series of themed symposia. 

 THEMES 

When submitting your abstract, you must indicate one theme from the list below that best suits your paper.

Please note that these themes should only be used as a guide.

The themes are used by the Executive Committee to place abstracts in the most appropriate sessions – please see below for more information on each theme and how to submit your abstract: 

Changing the Course of Ageing and Neurodegeneration

Relevant abstracts: ageing, neurodegeneration, dementia, neuroimaging, genetics of neurological disease, novel approaches to therapy of ageing neurodegeneration.

Diet, the Microbiome and Disease – Time to Take Note?

Relevant abstracts: epidemiological and molecular studies of the microbiome in different disease systems, mechanistic links between the environment and/or diet and the microbiome, probiotic and interventional studies.

New Ways to Control Inflammation and Healing

Relevant abstracts: studies of inflammation and healing linked to disease; immunometabolism and disease; role of stromal and mononuclear cells in disease and healing, novel therapeutic approaches to control inflammation/promote healing.

COVID-19 – What Lessons Have we Learned?

Relevant abstracts: molecular, epidemiological, therapeutic, clinical science, public health and global health learnings from studies of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Open Theme

The Association warmly welcomes a wide range of themes under its ‘open theme’ category.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT

Abstracts must be submitted online, where you will be guided through the process. Any abstract submitted on paper or in a format other than specified will be rejected. Submitted abstracts should include unpublished data.

ABSTRACT REVIEW

All abstracts will be anonymously reviewed and scored for originality, quality of data, presentation and significance.

LATE BREAKING ABSTRACTS

There will be a limited number of slots for the highly competitive late breaking abstract session. Abstracts are sought from recently published results of major emerging data that was not available at the time of the main abstract deadline. Please note that acceptance rates are usually lower for this session.

ORAL SCIENTIFIC PRESENTATIONS

Presenters will be allocated a maximum of 10 minutes for their presentation including time for questions. PowerPoint presentation facilities will be provided for speakers. No facilities for slides, video or overhead transparencies will be available at the meeting.

THE OSLER PRIZE

The highest ranked abstracts will be accepted for oral presentations and be considered for the “Osler Prize” awarded by the AoP. The top oral presenter (Osler awardee) at the Meeting in Dublin 2022, will be awarded a travel fellowship to present at the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) Conference in Chicago in 2023.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

High quality abstracts that are not selected for oral presentation may be accepted for poster presentation. An award will be made for the best poster presentation.

REGISTRATION OF ABSTRACT PRESENTERS

All accepted abstract presenters will be required to register for the Meeting by a given date in early 2022 at the appropriate rate. Please note, that whilst AoP membership is not required for abstract submission, it is encouraged.

TRAVEL BURSARIES FOR AOP MEMBER (NON CONSULTANT GRADE) ABSTRACT PRESENTERS

A limited number of bursaries (Complimentary meeting registration and dinner + £150 towards travel/accommodation) are available for AOP Member non consultants abstract presenters who take an active role in the Meeting Programme. AoP membership starts at £75 per annum for ECR Members (Pre-CCT) 

AoP Membership benefits for clinical Early Career Researchers (pre-CCT) 

  • Eligible for entry to awards and bursaries programmes including the Osler Prize
  • AoP contributes to the AMS Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers up to £30,000 
  • AoP provides support and mentoring  for their ECR members to apply for these grants and to successfully conduct their research projects
